Most of the Boys

Sasha Siem’s cult debut album, ‘Most of the Boys’ (2015), is a series of ‘cautionary tales for young women’ written for voice and string quartet following initial experiments in New York City with The Mivos Quartet, I.C.E. and producer David Kahne (Lana Del Rey, Regina Spector).

The album was finally premiered as a staged ‘opera’ at the Royal Opera House in London following its release. In Sasha’s words, “the creative process was playful and also meticulous. It was almost like I was a watchmaker - intricately putting a puzzle together.”

“A brazen take on the tensions, sharp contrasts and dichotomies that young women have to navigate in 21st century society (personal and public selves, acting mannerly and offering honesty, showing confidence while nursing wounds)” - Stereogum

“Sasha Siem possesses a unique musical identity that is melodious and adept. She makes pocket symphonies of great observation and discovery, a cohesive, powerful story” - The Quietus

"Intelligence that places her among a pack of similarly singular artists like Andrew Bird, Joanna Newsom, Bjork” - Q Magazine

"Sasha Siem makes us own our femininity"Noisey

"Demands every single bit of your bolt-upright attention" - The Line Of Best Fit

“Siem’s lack of regard for decorum makes the album a compelling listen; her ability to turn the voices in her head into a brazen take on woman hood that’s also pleasing to the ear” - Stereogum
